Nikkhil Advani recognised the potential in the material as soon as he finished reading the Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway script. When Rani Mukerji consented to play the lead role, his confidence in the movie was strengthened. After all, the actor is renowned for being picky about her work. Even more important, she has only been in movies made by YRF Productions in the last ten years, with the exception of Bombay Talkies (2013).

During an interview with Midday, Advani was asked if it was hard to get Rani to join. The producer claimed that it only needed a good script. He handed her the script on a Thursday, and she promised to get back to him on Monday. Rani told Advani she was prepared to answer a big yes on Friday when he spoke with her on Monday; that's this script's strength.

The story, which is based on what happened to Sagarika and Anurup Bhattacharya's children in 2011, when they were taken away from them due to extreme parental neglect, is hard to resist.

Advani only considered Mukerji for the Ashima Chibber-directed project, whose trailer debuts today. He added that Rani comes to mind when one needs a star-making actor who can portray nuanced emotions and carry a movie. Also, Mrs. Chatterjee is a Bengali immigrant who is battling for her children, and Rani is Bengali.

The drama began filming in Estonia in August 2021, and it took three months to complete. While getting ready is essential for an artist to get into a character, it becomes even more necessary when one must provide an accurate rendition of a true story. According to the producer, the movie's leading actor meticulously researched every aspect of her role, right down to her accent.

Advani had his doubts about her choosing a specific accent for the role. But Rani nailed that to a T, which gave her character even more authenticity. He goes on to say that a certain scene made him even more sure that she is one of the best actors working in Hindi films right now. Her character can be seen chasing after her kids in one sequence. The team and Rani nailed the emotionally and physically challenging sequence.
