Amazon Prime Video launched the highly anticipated trailer of the sports-drama Toofaan on Wednesday. The Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial has Farhan Akhtar as a budding boxer and Mrunal Thakur as the female lead.
The trailer gives a peek into the life of Ajju aka Aziz Ali (Farhan), an orphan born in Mumbai’s Dongri who grows up to be a local goon and later fights to become a world champion in boxing.
Talking at a virtual conference held for the trailer launch, Farhan said, “For me, the great thing is that it’s a sports drama, but collaborating with Rakyesh again is much more special. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was one of the most amazing adventures that I’ve been on as far as making a movie was concerned. So, with this project, I consider myself very fortunate.”
Paresh Rawal, who plays Ajju’s coach in the movie, said that he is a huge admirer of the film’s director Rakyesh and his work in films such as Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. “When I heard the story, I thought that the film had to be made for our country. I have a significant character to play with Farhan, so I was thrilled to be a part of it,” the actor added.
On working with Rakyesh and Farhan, Mrunal replied, “It’s a dream come true. I always wanted to work with him, I remember sending him (Rakyesh) a Facebook message during Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and now Toofaan is happening. I’m very excited and I feel I’m very blessed.”
Toofaan will be released in more than 200 countries on the OTT streamer on July 16.
