Mugilpete was Manu (Manoranjan) Ravichandran’s first release in three years. For Manu, the son of veteran actor V Ravichandran, the Bharat Navunda directorial was a comeback of sorts, given that his last release was the 2018 Brihaspati, which didn’t work at the box office. The film was also meant to correct some of the criticism that the actor had faced for both Saheba and Brihaspati – his Kannada diction and lean physique.

Mugilpete, therefore, became Manu’s most commercial outing in his career. “Saheba and Brihaspati were deemed not commercial enough for Crazy Star Ravichandran V’s son. While I have no regrets and stand by my choices of films, I have been looking at working on these weaknesses in my career. Mugilpete is the result of that effort and will be my most ‘commercial’ avatar yet. I believe that I will make a strong comeback with Mugilpete,” Manu had told OTTplay back then.

The actor sported a more bulked up physique and a measured style of dialogue delivery in the film in which he was paired with newbie Kayadu Lohar. The film’s narrative followed a simple love story, with a cutesy courtship and misunderstandings that then separate them. Whether their relationship can weather these differences and bring them back together forms the rest of the narrative.

The film is now set for its OTT outing, with the digital rights being picked up by Zee5. According to reports Mugilpete will start streaming on the platform from May 13. Backed by Raksha and Vijay Kumar, Mugilpete has music by composer Sridhar V Sambhram.

Incidentally, May 13 is also when Manu has his next theatrical release, Prarambha. The film, a romantic drama with a lot of action, directed by Manu Kalyadi, pairs the actor with Keerthy Kalakeri. Produced by Jagdeesh Kalyadi, the film has songs by Prajwal Pai.
