Anant Ambani’s wedding to longtime sweetheart Radhika Merchant is the talk of not just the town but the entire nation. The duo’s pre-wedding festivities began on March 1, with pop singer Rihanna’s concert enthralling the long list of guests attending the event. The wedding of Mukesh and Nita Ambani’s younger son, Anant, has brought the who’s who from India and across the globe to Jamnagar, Gujarat, the city where the Ambanis laid the foundation of their oil refinery. Welcoming the guests, Mukesh Ambani gave a soulful speech. Here’s what he said

Mukesh Ambani welcomed guests in 'atithi devo bhava' style

Starting his speech in a truly traditional manner, Mukesh Ambani began by saying, “Our esteemed friends and family. Namaste and good evening to each and every one of you. In Indian tradition, we respectfully describe guests as atithis. Atithi devo bhava, which means guests are equal to gods. When I did namaste to you, it meant that the divine in me is pleased to acknowledge the divine in you. Aap sab ne iss shaadi ke mahaul ko mangalmaye bana diya hai. Dhanyawaad. Bahut bahut dil se dhanyawaad."

He also remembered his late iconic father, Dhirubhai Ambani, on the occasion and said that the latter is definitely showering his blessings on all of them from the heavens above.

Besides thanking all the esteemed guests for their immense blessings to the to-be newlyweds for their “journey of lifelong partnership,” Mukesh also shared a few words for Anant and Radhika. Explaining the Sanskrit meaning of his son’s name, Anant (without an end or infinite), he said that as a father, he saw infinite potential in Anant, who has taken after his late father, Dhirubhai Ambani.

“Main Anant mein anant shakti dekhta hoon,” quipped Mukesh Ambani, and added that Anant has a similar ‘can do, will do, nothing is impossible’ attitude as Dhirubhai. Calling the bride-to-be Radhika “a reservoir of immense creative energy” and “a quiet fountain of love and care,” he pointed out that Radhika is indeed Anant’s ideal life partner.

Recalling that Radhika was also Lord Krishna’s favourite consort, Mukesh added a beautiful touch to the speech by declaring, “Radhika and Anant. Anant and Radhika. Yeh toh rab ne bana di jodi hai.” Radhika and Anant will reportedly tie the knot in July this year.
