Mukesh Khanna's iconic ‘Shaktimaan’ to be back on the big screen

This will be an iconic moment for every '90s kid as they will soon get to see their superhero, growing up, back on the screen. The earliest superhero of India, played by the veteran Mukesh Khanna, had a huge influence on children and became a household name since it started airing on Doordarshan in the '90s. Now, the good news is the story of the superhero is being recreated.  

The Sony Pictures International Productions is joining hands with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited and Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International to recreate the magic in the form of a trilogy, to be headlined by one of India’s major superstars. The studios has acquired the film adaptation rights of India’s most coveted superhero IP - ‘Shaktimaan’ to reimagine it as a superhero trilogy for the big screen. 

The superhero franchise is going to be helmed by one of the country’s top filmmakers. Sony Pictures took to Twitter to make the official announcement. They tweeted, "After the super success of our many superhero films in India and all over the globe, it's time for our desi Superhero!"

This also marks the studio’s first entry in the Indian superhero space, having already dominated it globally, through the parent company, Sony Pictures Entertainment. The studio also plans to seek expertise from its headquarters in Culver City, Los Angeles to provide one of the unique cinematic experiences, using the latest technology in movie-making and post-production. 

Shaktimaan aka Gangadhar, to date, remains one of India’s most iconic and unforgettable superheroes. With Sony Pictures recreating the superhero, fans are quite excited and looking forward to what promises to be a memorable blockbuster. The decision to bring back the people’s superhero has caused ripples of excitement already!
