After a surprise last-minute announcement on April 26, Bollywood director Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga dropped on Amazon Prime Video on April 27. The movie, which has John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles, had hit theatres in March.
On the film’s OTT release, Abraham said, “I am delighted with the response from fans who watched the movie (in theatres). Mumbai Saga will now stream on Amazon Prime Video and this feeling of sharing our hard work across the world is amazing.”
The actor, who worked with Gupta on Zinda and Shootout at Wadala previously, said, “I absolutely love working with him as I believe he brings out the best in me and more importantly, he understands the pulse of the audience and delivers films that are loved by them.”
While Abraham plays the role of a gangster named Amartya Rao, Hashmi dons the character of senior inspector Vijay Sawarkar. Opening up about his character, Hashmi said, “Vijay Savarkar’s character, while being a cop, has some grey shades to it, and that’s something that excited me to take this role on.”
The film explores hope, aspiration, friendship and betrayal in the era of the early 90s. The movie also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Kajal Aggarwal, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Amole Gupte, Samir Soni, Gulshan Grover, and Anjana Sukhani in pivotal roles.
Talking about Mumbai Saga, its director Gupta promised, “The cast, the strong narrative and the backdrop of Mumbai in the early 90s will keep the audiences at the edge of their seats, making it a delightful watch.”
