Filmmaker BSP Varma and actor Prabhu Mundkur’s second collaboration, after Urvi, had them unite to write a love story with a time travel angle to it. Prabhu got not one, but two roles, as father and son, with Roshni Prakash and Ila Veermala paired against each of them. Released in theatres in October, the film is headed to OTT this week, confirmed Prabhu.

Murphy on OTT on...

Last month, Varma and Prabhu had announced that Murphy had got a digital streaming deal and that it was headed to Amazon Prime Video shortly. A source says that Murphy, like most other Kannada films on the platform, has a pay-per-view deal with the streamer. The assumption was that it would drop on the platform on December 5, considering that it is Prabhu’s birthday, but the actor said that the digital streaming would be a day later on December 6.

TITLE Murphy
DIRECTOR BSP Varma
CAST Prabhu Mundkur, Roshni Prakash, Ila Veermala, Dattanna
STREAMING PLATFORM Amazon Prime Video
STREAMING DATE December 6, 2024

Murphy, meanwhile, follows David (Prabhu), a young collegian, who lives with his paternal grandfather, Richard (Dattanna). David’s dad, Joseph (also Prabhu), passed away earlier, a loss both he and Richard have still not come to terms with. When Richard’s favourite radio connects David with a girl called Janani (Roshni), who, as it turns out, is from a time gone by, the duo figure out that there is a strange connection between them.

Shot majorly in Goa, Murphy captures a beautiful side of the rain-kissed coastal town, which is elevated greatly by its music, credits for which are shared by Arjun Janya and Sylvester Pradeep. The story of the film may seem predictable to fans of the sci-fi time travel genre, especially Back to the Future.

After Murphy, Prabhu was recently seen as one of the villains in Maryade Prashne, a role that he got a lot of praise for. That film should also be headed to OTT shortly.
