Jai Bhim

This Tamil courtroom drama film has Suriya in the lead role alongside Lijomol Jose. Prakash Raj, K Manikandan are in supporting roles. The plot is based on a true incident that took place in the 90s in a tribal village of Tamil Nadu. The story follows an honest advocate Chandru, who defends a tribal woman Senggeni, whose husband Rajakannu gets falsely convicted in a case. Rajakannu goes missing from the prison which in turn creates turmoil in his court case.

Karnan

The Tamil action drama film stars Dhanush in the titular role with Lal, Yogi Babu and Natarajan Subramaniam in supporting roles. The story, set in a small village of Tamil Nadu, depicts a daring young man named Karnan. Belonging to a lower caste, he fights for the rights of conservative villagers who are inhumanely treated. The movie is loosely based on the Kodiyankulam caste violence in Tamil Nadu, that happened in 1995. This critically acclaimed film proves to be one of the finest Tamil films shot this year.

Sarpatta Parambarai

A 2021 Tamil sports action movie that includes a star cast of Arya, Dushara Vijayan, and John Kokken in main roles. The story, set in the 1970s, follows a clash between two clans - Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai. When the Sarpatta clan is challenged for a boxing match, a Dalit labourer Kabilan pitches in to fight the challenge, amidst his mother’s disapproval and family politics. A screenplay of the 70s Chennai lifestyle makes the movie more authentic.

This Tamil drama film, which includes an ensemble star cast, showcases love that finds its own way. The movie follows heartwarming stories of romance with events that involve four sets of people, all from different age groups. This one’s a Malayalam political thriller that stars Kunchako Boban, Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan in lead roles. A mind boggling storyline with a clear ending makes it worth watching!

Malik

This Malayalam political thriller movie features Fahadh Faasil in the lead role along with Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Vinay Forrt in supporting roles. A captivating movie, this one showcases issues concerning politics and communalism.

Joji

The Malayalam crime drama film is inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The movie stars Fahadh Faasil in the titular role supported by Baburaj, Shammi Thilakan, and Unnimaya Prasad in pivotal roles. The story is all about Joji, an engineering dropout who is the youngest son of Kuttappan, a wealthy man. Driven by an ambitious mind, Joji decides to take fate into his own hands following unforeseen events in their family. A lush green countryside setting of Kerala enhances the beauty of this movie.

Aarkkariyam

The Malayalam drama movie stars Parvathy Thiruvothu as Shirley with Sharaf U Dheen as Roy in lead roles. The story is set in the frame of the Covid lockdown of 2020. A married couple, Shirley and Roy, decide to move from their Mumbai house to her hometown in Kerala. The film charts the journey of how they encounter challenges and try to overcome their personal issues. Roy learns that Shirley’s home is not what he thought it would be.

Rathnan Prapancha

The Kannada drama film includes a star cast of Dhananjay, Umashree and Reba Monica John in lead roles. The story revolves around Ratnakara, a middle class man working as an insurance agent. A well-written story, this one leaves you with life’s lessons and its purpose.

Vakeel Saab

A Telugu legal drama stars Pawan Kalyan in the titular character alongside Nivetha Thomas, Ananya Nagalla, Prakash Raj and Shruti Haasan in supporting roles. The movie is a remake of the Bollywood film Pink, starring Amitabh Bachchan. The plot follows three independent women, who fight in the court against a spoiled * upper-class young man who forces himself on them during a party. They see a ray of hope when an expert lawyer joins them to support their cause.
