The audio launch of Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu was held amid much fanfare yesterday in Chennai. Vijay arrived in style and also walked around the stage and a special gallery set up for him to get a closer look of his fans. The venue was packed to the hilt with eager fans thronging the venue to get a glimpse of the actor in person. And Vijay, too, didn't disappoint his zealous fans. When the host asked Vijay what was his biggest addiction, Vijay said that it was his fans. "My fans are by biggest strength and addiction," he said to a rousing reception

Later, the actor narrated a story, which he said was as good as a real one. "In the 1990s, an actor emerged in the film industry who became my biggest competition. At first, it seemed like a regular competition, but soon, it became an intense one. After seeing his victory, I became a bit apprehensive and I, too, began to grow. Wherever I went, he was there. He shared the stage with me on multiple occasions. The reason I grew to this stature is because of him. I kept competing to overtake him. I think everyone needs a competitor like that to get ahead." While many thought that the actor was referring to his competitor Ajith, whose Thunivu is also releasing for Pongal, Vijay took the audience by surprise with his answer. He added, "The competition began in the year 1992 and the competitor's name was Joseph Vijay (his full name)."

While talking about Khushbu, who is working with Vijay after a long gap, the actor also recalled the time when he went to Kamala theatre to watch Khusbu's Chinnathambi. "Whenever I see her, it takes me back to those days when I watched the movie with my friends and girlfriend." The moment he uttered the word, girlfriend, it was claps all over.

Vijay also thanked Silambarasan TR for singing the song Thee Thalapathy, which is a tribute to him. Vijay said, "Simbu, Simbu, Simbu, I am really touched and thank you so much." He later sang the song Ranjithame and wished his fans in the style of the song.
