My Name Is Jaan: Arpita performs Gauhar Jaan as Biswajit Chatterjee praises daughter-in-law

My name is Jaan, a play based on Gauhar Jaan, has been critically acclaimed. The two shows of the play My Name Is Jaan: A Tribute To the Timeless Legacy Of Gauhar Jaan have proved that people are interested in good works. Mumbai’s Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir hosted the two shows. Veteran actor Biswajit Chatterjee came to watch the show and sat for two hours to see the performance of his daughter-in-law Arpita, who played the eponymous character. 

After the play, Biswajit praised Arpita and told TV9, “I will firstly send wishes and give blessings. Best wishes to the Jaan of this play. I never thought the show would be so great. It is like a one-man army–one jawan can win a battle. Arpita proved that today. I want to give my best wishes to all the crew and cast of the play.” 

Biswajit recollected, “I have known Arpita from the time when she did her debut film Anupama. She came to our family. She is going to win the world. I will pray that she makes India proud.”  

After getting success in Bollywood, Biswajit left his wife Ratna Chatterjee and two minor kids and had a new family in Mumbai. He did not have contact with Prosenjit and Pallabi for a long time. However, the relationship became easier in subsequent years. A few months back, Biswajit made some explosive comments to Anandalok regarding his and Ratna’s divorce. 

Biswajit said, “Ratna poisoned the kids’ minds against me. Bumba now understands everything, but I will never forgive Pallabi.” He said that Ratna used to mentally torture him and he cried alone in the green rooms. Ratna’s male friends forcefully entered their bedroom and took out money from the wardrobe. Hence Biswajit left his home. Then Ratna Chatterjee sent the divorce notice. Biswajit wanted to keep his children, but Ratna did not agree to it. It is heard that Arpita, after her marriage, eased the tension in the relationship between father and son.
