Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa trailer: The quest for a holiday special chicken curry on a dry day

Independent filmmaker Abhilash Shetty, whose debut feature Koli Taal was about a young man visiting his grandparents and their plans to have special chicken curry go up in smoke when the rooster they’d earmarked for it goes missing, is bringing his next to theatres. Part of a ‘Koli’ trilogy that he has planned, this one is called Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa and is, yet again, about chicken curry, albeit in a different setting.

All about Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa

Abhilash repeats the cast of Prabhakar Kunder and Radha Ramachander as the grandparents, whose school-going granddaughter (Samruddhi Kundapura) visits in the hope of having chicken curry on a holiday. Trouble is that she has chosen to visit them on Gandhi Jayanti, a day with no sale of meat products and alcohol. Hoping that the no non-veg rule does not apply in the village her grandparents are at, she heads there, only to find that most families that rear chicken at home have ‘promised’ their prized roosters as sacrifice to the local deity. Will she get to eat chicken to her heart’s desire?

Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa, which has a run-time of 1 hour and 31 minutes only, and has been censored with a clean U, is set to release in theatres on May 9. The film was recently in the news when Abhilash had tried to get it to be a part of the Bengaluru International Film Festival and applied in three categories in the hope of making it to at least one, only to get rejected and realize that the selection committee has not even watched it.

Swaroop Yashwanth is the cinematographer, while music is by M R Prahast. Like Koli Taal, Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa has also been written, directed and produced by Abhilash. Also on the cast are Sanidhya Acharya, Ganesh Mogaveera, Shridhar Mahabala, Supreetha KS, Akshay Kumar Shetty, among others.
