Nadigar Sangam today honoured Suriya for winning the Best Actor award at the 68th National Awards. The actor received the award for Soorarai Pottru, in which he plays a youngster from a small town who aspires to launch his own low-cost airline. Suriya was felicitated by the office bearers of the club and a memento was awarded to him by the president of the Sangam, Nasser. Also, present on the occasion was veteran actress Sachu, Karthi and Karunas. Soorarai Pottru composer GV Prakash, too, was felicitated on the occasion.

Soorarai Pottru bagged five awards at the 68th National Awards- Best Actor (Suriya), Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali), Best Feature Film (Sudha Kongara), Best Screenplay (Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair) and Best Background Score (GV Prakash Kumar). Suriya released a statement after the announcement and he wrote, "The National Award gives me the motivation to work harder and walk my talk...and give you all good films, now & always. I share this joyous moment with all my brothers and sisters who are out there, who have shown me immense love nad acceptance right through my career. My heartfelt thanks to you all #myanbaanafans."

In the meantime, Suriya and the co-producer of Viruman, Rajsekarpandian, handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to the Sangam. The film stars Karthi in the lead and has Aditi Shankar playing the leading lady. While Suriya and Jyotika's 2D Production has bankrolled the film, the rural entertainer, directed by Muthayya, has been distributed by Sakthi Film Factory. Aditi Shankar is the daughter of ace director Shankar and the film marks her acting debut. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Cinematography is by Selvakumar SK and editing is by Venkat Raajen. Though the film opened to mixed reviews, it's been running to packed houses and the makers have gone on to add additional shows to accommodate the crowd.
