Naga Shaurya will have two OTT releases on the same day!

Actor Naga Shaurya has had an eventful 2021, having two film releases in almost two months. While Varudu Kaavalenu, a family entertainer where he paired up with Ritu Varma, hit theatres on October 29, it was followed by the sports drama, Lakshya which released on December 10. Both the films only managed to elicit a modest response at the ticket window, with the former doing marginally better and earning good reviews from critics. Lakshya, the first mainstream Indian film to be based on archery, failed to excite audiences despite Shaurya's earnest efforts. 

Both the films are set to release on the same day on OTT - January 7, 2022, the big day when SS Rajamouli's RRR is also hitting theatres. While ZEE5 has bagged the streaming rights of Varudu Kaavalenu, Telugu OTT platform aha has acquired Lakshya. While actors tend to avoid a release clash of their two films at the theatres on the same day, this is not quite a big deal on OTT where audiences take time to warm up to the content and watch it at their own pace. The content certainly enjoys more shelf life on OTT.

ZEE5 has particularly been aggressive in its promotion of its Telugu OTT content - with Sai Dharam Tej's Republic and Niharika Konidela's production, Oka Chinna Family, in particular. It's expected that they'll follow a similar strategy with Varudu Kaavalenu, which is in fact a perfect fit for OTT viewing. aha has also been impressive with its content slate in the past few weeks, having premiered films like Pushpaka Vimanam, Anubhavinchu Raja, Manchi Rojulochaie, Most Eligible Bachelor within a month of their theatrical release. 

Naga Shaurya's next releases include Phalana Ammayi Phalana Abbayi, Naari Naari Naduma Murari besides another film under his home banner. The status of his other project Police Vari Hecharika is unknown, owing to the untimely death of its producer Mahesh Koneru.
