Shyam Singha Roy was one among the few films that helped the industry bounce back with a bang at a critical phase post COVID-19. The Rahul Sankrityan starrer was a reincarnation drama that starred Nani, Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty and Madonna Sebastian in key roles. The film was bankrolled by Venkat Boyanapalli under Niharika Entertainment and released across all South Indian languages to critical acclaim and impressive box-office response.

There's wonderful news for fans of the Nani starrer. Reports suggest that Shyam Singha Roy has been recommended for an Oscar nomination across three categories - best period film, best background score and best choreography (classical dance). Mickey J Meyer had composed the songs and the background score for the period drama that alternates between West Bengal and Hyderabad. Some of the popular songs in the film include Siri Vennela, Pranavalaya and Rise of Shyam.

The story revolves around a budding filmmaker discovering strange truths about his previous birth. A budding filmmaker, who goes onto make a successful film, is perplexed by the plagiarism charges levelled against him by a West Bengal-based publishing house. However, for someone who doesn't know a word of Bengali language, how could he have possibly borrowed from the literary work? A series of eerie events confirm there's more to the filmmaker's life than what meets the eye. One needs to go back in time and discover the life of social activist Shyam Singha Roy to know the truth.

The film is currently streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. Avinash Kolla is the art director while Sanu Varghese had cranked the camera for the same. There are reports that the film may have a Hindi remake too. Shyam Singha Roy was the second collaboration for Nani and Sai Pallavi after Middle Class Abbayi. Despite releasing only a week after Pushpa, the drama earned the love of audiences and made a mark.
