Mammootty’s performance in director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam had surprised a lot of fans and won the hearts of those who had watched the movie. It seems that the surprise wasn’t just limited to those who watched the movie but also those who saw the actor on the sets.
A photo, which shows Mammootty sleeping on a cemented floor outside a house apparently during a shoot break, has now gone viral. Dressed as his character, the actor is seen taking a nap on a floor strewn with leaves. It’s not yet clear whether it’s a shooting still or a photo taken during a break. The movie, which is also produced by Mammootty, doesn’t have this scene as his character is seen sleeping in the verandah of a house and not outside it. The photo was taken by Mammootty's assistant George, who had also produced Puzhu last year.
Many fans were reminded of Mammootty’s early days, when the actor said that during the shoot breaks in the 80s, he and his colleagues would sleep outside under the shade of a tree. But by the time they woke up, the shadow from the tree would have moved and they would be baking, but too tired from the work to even care.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which also has Ramya Pandian, Ashokan, Kainakary Thankaraj, Suresh Babu, Chethan Jayalal and Rajesh Sarma, is currently playing in theatres. The movie revolves around James, who along with his family is returning from a trip to Velankanni, when he asks the driver to stop the bus at a village in Tamil Nadu. James walks into the village and starts behaving as Sundaram, who had gone missing sometime ago.
The film, scripted by S Hareesh and cinematographed by Theni Easwar, marked the debut production of Mammootty Kampany. The film had a rousing reception during its world premiere at IFFK in December 2022, and also got positive reviews after it was released in theatres on January 19.
