Amidst a lot of drama surrounding the OTT release of Narappa, the trailer of the Venkatesh, Priyamani-starrer was finally unveiled by Amazon Prime Video today. Narappa is the story of a father who guards his son Sinnabba against the henchmen of a village landlord who is brutally murdered. Sinabba kills the landlord to avenge his brother's death after which the family's world turns topsy turvy. How far can a father go to secure the future of his only son while battling an unjust society?
The two-minute-long glimpse of the rural actioner feels more like a massy, cinematic upgrade to the raw, realistic universe of Asuran in Tamil. Unsurprisingly, it's Venkatesh who steals the limelight in the trailer playing the title role, donning multiple looks and delivering the Rayalaseema Telugu slang to perfection. The trailer proves that the actor still has it in him to pull off edgy action sequences with the same verve as in the 90s and the 2000s. Never has the actor looked more intense in any of his recent films, except the case of his sports drama Guru.
Moreover, it's been a long time since the fans of Venkatesh have seen their favourite star in a vintage mass avatar and Narappa is like a perfect commercial package with a purpose that could potentially fulfil their quest. Unfortunately, their joy would be limited to the small screens this time around.
Priyamani, Rao Ramesh, Karthik Rathnam, Rajeev Kanakala and others too make their presence felt in the trailer, albeit briefly. Composer Mani Sharma's background scores need no introduction, especially in a subject as weighty as Narappa. The trailer has cinematic highs for the viewers to wait for July 20 with bated breath. Director Sreekanth Addala proves that there's more to him as a filmmaker beyond churning out love stories and family dramas.
