Tovino Thomas’ latest film Narivetta is garnering a lot of attention and praise for its realistic portrayal of a hard-hitting tale. However, the Malayalam film, directed by Anuraj Manohar, was also in the news after certain online reports claimed the film was sent for recensoring and certain relevant scenes were cut. Now, the makers of the Tovino Thomas-starrer have issued a statement, setting the record straight. Read on to know all the latest updates…
Indian Cinema Company, which has backed Tovino Thomas’ Narivetta, has now put out their official statement on social media after reports claimed that scenes from the film were getting cut in re-censoring.
"We want to clarify that no scenes have been removed or changed in the film," the Indian Cinema Company said in their statement on social media.
"The only re-censorship that took place was for the inclusion of the song 'Vaada Veda', performed by renowned rapper Vedan," the statement further explained.
But for this, the film is exactly the same as it was on release day on May 23, 2025, the makers further said.
They further urged everyone, including media, not to spread false news, and thanked those heading to cinemas in Kerala even as heavy rains pound the state.
Meanwhile, Narivetta has been performing consistently well at the box office. The film has also already earned Rs 19 crore within eight days at the box office, beating Tovino’s Identity which minted Rs 16.9 crore.
Narivetta follows the events after tribal people occupy a piece of forest land, protesting the delay in allotting land to them. However, this leads to a face-off with the police. Tovino Thomas, who has starred in movies such as Mayaanadhi and 2018, appears as police constable Varghese.
Suraj Venjaramoodu is seen as head constable Basheer and Cheran as DIG Keshavadas. The film also features Arya Salim as activist CK Shanti and Priyamvada Krishnan.
When asked if the movie is inspired from the 2003 Muthanga agitation in Kerala, the makers said that the film is not based on any particular incident.
