The film is directed by Revanth Korukonda and produced by Sandhya Raju under Nishrinkala Films
Kuchipudi danseuse, who made her acting debut in a Malayalam film titled Careful, is testing waters in Telugu cinema with Natyam. Besides starring in the lead role in the film, she has produced the film, while also handling the costume design and serving as a production designer. The dance-centric film is written, directed, cinematographed and edited by Revanth Korukonda. Apart from Sandhya Raju, the film features Kamal Kamaraju, Rohit Behal, Aditya Menon, Subhaleka Sudhakar and Bhanu Priya in crucial roles. The film is slated for a theatrical release on October 22.
Shravan Bharadwaj, who has worked on films like Malli Raava, Vinara Sodara Veera Kumara and Kalki, is composing music for the film. Three songs from Natyam have already been released - Namah Shivaya, Thoorpu Padamara, Venuvulo - by noted celebrities like Nandamuri Balakrishna, Venkatesh and Ravi Teja recently. RRR actor Jr NTR had released the film's teaser as well. The film, revolving around several classical dance forms, traces the professional/personal highs and lows of a dancer (played by Sandhya Raju).
The film has been extensively shot across the Telugu states in temples, scenic landscapes and other locations under challenging weather conditions. Additionally, the fact that a dance-centric film is releasing in Telugu after several decades is a good enough reason for audiences to be curious about it. Sandhya Raju has been learning dance since the age of 10 under gurus like Vempati Chinna Satyam and Kishore Mosalikanti. However, the absence of popular faces in Natyam may prove to be a dampener. Mahesh Upputuri is the art director of the film. The streaming partner for Natyam hasn't been announced yet.
