On the first anniversary of Irrfan’s demise after a prolonged battle with cancer, Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared his memories about the late actor, with whom he had shared screen space in movies such as The Lunchbox.

Nawazuddin spoke about his first project with Irrfan, in an interview with Times of India recently. He shared that Irrfan had directed him in a movie titled Alvida, while they were still part of the National School of Drama.

He said that Irrfan taught him the concept of "less is more". “In a scene where I was supposed to ask a girl to come over and sit on my bicycle, Irrfan bhai told me that I can drop the word ‘cycle’ since movies are an audio-visual medium,” he recalled.

The actor was also all praise for Babil, who is set to make his acting debut soon with Qala, which will be released on Netflix. Recalling when he first met Babil while working with Irrfan, Nawazuddin shared, “I have seen Babil as a child when we used to meet Irrfan bhai and his family for Holi-Diwali celebrations. I hope that he has a successful career in films.”

Netflix announced Babil’s debut film Qala recently, by sharing its first look images. Babil also posted a photo, revealing that he had finished shooting for the film’s first schedule. Before venturing into acting, he had worked as a camera assistant in Irrfan’s Qarib Qarib Singlle.

Backed by Anushka Sharma’s production house, Qala stars Tripti Dimrii as the female lead. While the makers of Qala announced that they have started filming for the movie, they have not announced a release date yet.
