Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s 75th film, Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food, which was released in theatres on December 1, has been receiving fairly positive responses from critics. The Jawan actress, who rarely makes appearances for promotions or gives interviews, recently sat down for a lively chat about her latest outing.
Nayanthara spoke about the love she has been receiving from the audience since the release of the film. She also spoke about why she chose to play an aspiring chef in the film.
Nayanthara on making a positive impact through her films
When asked about the positive impact she was able to make in inspiring audiences who aspire to be chefs, like her character, Annapoorani, Nayanthara said, “I choose roles keeping in mind the responsibility I have as an actor; it never feels like pressure. We may not always make great films and not every film will have surprise elements. But I always believe that we should make decent films that do not send the wrong messages. This is something I have been very conscious of while choosing scripts.”
She continued, “This film, (Annapoorani), is very clean. I don't think anyone can make a decent film with such a clean subject as this one. There are themes like family bonding and healthy relationships, and these are the aspects that I ensure are well aligned. I strive to make films with decent content. Even a commercial film shouldn’t have the wrong message. With this film, we have aspired to motivate the youth.”
Nayanthara on her on-screen chemistry with Jai
The actress also spoke about her co-star Jai, with whom she last shared screen space in Atlee’s Raja Rani. The actress emphasised that although it had been 10 years since they worked together, her and Jai's onscreen chemistry was organic. “I haven't spoken or been in touch with Jai since we last shot for Raja Rani, which was almost 10 years ago. However, when we reunited for Annapoorani, we were still a seamless onscreen pairing. This is due to the sweet friendship we share. When you work with someone who makes it easy, everything falls into place effortlessly,” the actress added.
