In the first glimpse, audiences got to see Nayanthara reading a book in what seemed to be a conservative household. As the camera zooms in on the book, it becomes evident that she is actually reading a cookbook. The sneak-peek video hinted that Annapoorani centres around Nayanthara's character's love for food and cooking. Now, director Nilesh has confirmed this. In an interview, he said, "Annapoorani is the story of a Brahmin girl who hails from an orthodox family. She wants to become a chef. The film centres around her struggle in the male-dominated culinary world, where she has to cook non-vegetarian dishes as well." The director assured that the film would not hurt the sentiments of any community.

Interestingly, according to the director, it was Nayanthara who recommended bringing Jai on board. “Nayanthara ma’am suggested that Jai play the role of Farhaan in the film," said Nilesh.

Also starring in the film are Achyuth Kumar, KS Ravikumar, Sathyaraj, and Redin Kingsley. Thaman has composed the music, while Sathyan Sooryan has handled the cinematography.
