The Chinese film Ne Zha 2 continues to impress at the Box Office. It has crossed USD 1 billion mark in 10 days of its release till Sunday morning, even beating the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With its feat, Ne Zha 2 is now among all-time top 10 animated films globally. The film is now expected to cross USD 2 billion mark as well. Here's the Box Office update of this movie so far...
Ne Zha 2 beat the iconic Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the Box Office on day 11, according to Deadline. While Star Wars had minted over USD 935 million at the time, Ne Zha 2 has already crossed USD 1 billion mark. Needless to say, Ne Zha 2 is the highest-ever grossing non-English film at the moment.
No other movie outside of the US has managed to make it to the billion dollar club. Thus, Ne Zha 2 has broken records in the Asian market, more so within just 12 days of its release. The film was out in theatres on January 29 and has massive viewership in China itself.
Written and directed by Jiaozhi, Ne Zha 2 is based on Nezha, a protection deity in Chinese Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Chinese folk. The story, of course, is a continuation from the original film which almost made it to Oscars. The film has references from the classic 16th-century novel Investiture of the Gods by Xu Zhonglin.
Even though it is the highest grossing non-English film ever, Ne Zha 2 has a long way to go to become the highest-grossing film ever. With USD 2.92 billion, Avatar still holds the spot. However, since Ne Zha 2 is expected to cross USD 2 billion at the Box Office, it might just have a chance. Needless to say, the film has created history.
