NEEK box office collection day 1 report: Dhanush’s third directorial gets a decent opening but will it become weekend crowd puller?

Actor Dhanush, after directing films like Pa Paandi and Raayan, made his third film titled Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam with a young cast. The film hit theatres on Friday, and has opened with a decent starting. Here’s how much the film made on its first day.

NEEK box office collection day 1: Dhanush becomes the pulling factor

Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam shortened as NEEK, is a 2025 romantic comedy drama, written and directed by Dhanush. The film features Dhanush’s nephew Pavish in the lead role, along with actors Anikha Surendran, Matthew Thomas, Priya Prakash Varrier, Rabiya Khatoon, Ramya Ranganathan and Venkatesh Menon, along with senior actors like Sarathkumar, Naren, and Saranya Ponvannan.

The film hit theatres on February 21, and as per Sacnilk report, it has collected Rs 1.15 crore on day one at the box office collection. NEEK released in theatres along with Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, which has collected Rs 6 crore. However, NEEK still has the weekend to pull youth audience to theatres. With Dhanush’s name as the major pulling factor, NEEK opened to mixed reviews upon its release. The film revolves around a group of friends, their romance and emotions, catering to the Gen Z audience.

NEEK to have a sequel

The ending of NEEK suggests that the film will have sequel to follow. The film’s ending title card teases NEEK 2- Love is in the air, potentially hinting that Dhanush will make a follow-up film to continue the stories of the characters.

For those who haven’t watched the film, NEEK revolves around two young lovers who break up due to a reason. When the boy gets invited to the girl’s wedding, he goes in the hope to forget her but things take a different turn. The film ends on a note where several characters want to pursue their love interest, with NEEK 2 to determine their fate.
