In a recent interview, bollywood actor Neena Gupta claimed that following her 2018 film Badhaai Ho, she began to get work. Neena also claimed that despite getting to work on a variety of films, she continues to lose out on parts to actresses who were more well-known in the earlier. In 2017, Neena posted a selfie to Instagram with the message, “I live in Mumbai and working am a good actor looking for good parts to play.”
Neena stated in a new interview with Etimes, “I did not get work because of my Insta posts, I got it because of Badhaai Ho. That film changed the course for me. I was recognised as a good actor and that got me more work and respect. It’s unbelievable at times to see such good work coming to me now."
She continued by describing how she was removed from projects, “They are offering and accepting me in varied roles. Having said that, even today, some filmmakers prefer to take a yesteryear heroine instead of me in a role, just like it was back in the day because she was more known in her younger days. It has happened — that I was offered a role and then I came to know that they have replaced me with another actress who was a bigger name in her heydays.”
With Saath Saath, Neena made her acting debut in 1982. She went on to appear in movies like Mandi, Rihaee, Drishti, and Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda. Additionally, Neena was cast in a slew of international productions, including Cotton Mary, In Custody, and The Deceivers, as well as well-known TV programmes notably Mirza Ghalib and Saans.
Neena was most recently seen in Netflix's Masaba Masaba 2, in which her daughter Masaba Gupta plays the primary role. She will soon be featured in Goodbye, a film starring Amitabh Bachchan. Rashmika Mandanna will also appear in the movie, which is directed by Vikas Bahl.
