Directed by Vijayaprasad, the film was first in the news for the changes in cast and then for the dialogues, most of which were sexual in tone.

When Kannada director Vijayaprasad announced Neer Dose, way back in 2012/13 the film was more often in the news for the controversies surrounding the change of heroine. While he had first got Ramya on board, she opted out when politics came calling. Then came Ragini Dwivedi, who also had differences with the team and was then replaced in favour of Hariprriya. The role – that of a commercial sex worker – was very different from any she’d done earlier. At the time, Hariprriya had spoken about saying that it initially felt difficult to accept such a role, considering her onscreen image, as well as the way she is in real life, which is very different from what Kumuda (her character in the film) is. Kumuda, added Hariprriya, is bold and carefree, smokes and drinks, and carries herself around with a certain air.
Neer Dose, which also stars Jaggesh, Dattatreya and Suman Ranganath in pivotal roles, eventually released in August, 2016. The film followed four individuals, a retired PWD worker, a BBMP hearse van driver, a spinster who runs a milk booth and a commercial sex worker. What happens when these four strike an unlikely friendship forms the bulk of the narrative. When Neer Dose’s trailer came out, what caught everyone’s attention is the liberal use of double entendre in the dialogues. While the film was also high on double meaning lines, the filmmaker also attempted to convey a good message with this tale.
The film opened to mixed reviews and while some found it funny from start-to-finish, others thought that the sexually-charged jokes could have been cut down and spaced out. Back in 2016, Neer Dose was one of eight films that had released on the same day. So, if you missed the chance to watch it in a theatre then, you can now stream it from the comfort of your home. Neer Dose is coming to Voot Select on March 31, 2022.
