Single Papa, director Shashank Khaitan's forthcoming OTT debut, will mark Neha Dhupia's return to streaming with a significant part. Production on the series, which features Kunal Kemmu as the lead, is nearing completion.
As per Mid Day, the family entertainer, which is being pitched as a slice-of-life comedy-drama, has officially cast Dhupia (Devi and Qarib Qarib Singlle), according to a source close to the production. The last stages of filming for the show have begun. One of the show's major leads, Dhupia, has just joined the cast. The producers are attempting to assemble a formidable ensemble by casting performers with impeccable comedic timing. According to the insider, the actor's charisma and intelligence are a perfect fit with Kunal's dynamic personality.
Dhupia has recently made cameos in short films and reality shows, but this is her first long-format streaming role. The pairing between her and Kemmu, who has established himself in the OTT industry with roles in shows like Abhay, is said to be pivotal to the story and tone of the series.
The source added, "Their pairing brings a fresh spark to the screens. Shashank was clear he wanted an actor who could hold her own opposite Kunal. Their pairing brings a fresh spark to the screens."
Insiders say that Single Papa is about a single dad dealing with life, parenting, and unforeseen relationships; it's a comedy yet touching story. Lots of the show's dramatic and comedy moments, according to reports, revolve around the chemistry between Dhupia and Kemmu's characters. "The dynamic between their characters forms the emotional and comic core of the show," the insider continued.
With his upcoming OTT debut, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and previous films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Dhadak, director Khaitan is looking for more approachable and relevant material.
Although confirmation is awaited, the show will "most likely" debut on Netflix. We should expect more announcements, including the release date and supporting cast, once production is wrapped.
