Neru: It's a wrap for Mohanlal's courtroom drama

Neru, starring Mohanlal and directed by Jeethu Joseph, completed its shoot. The film, which went on floors in August, is a courtroom drama scripted by actress Santhi Mayadevi, known for Drishyam 2 and Leo. Neru marks the fifth collaboration of the Drishyam duo Mohanlal and Jeethu. They previously joined hands in 12th Man, a mystery thriller which was a direct OTT release.

Neru is a courtroom drama

Jeethu has stated that Neru will be different from his previous movies as it won't have any thrilling scenes. Instead, the film will be a procedural drama that focuses on human emotions. Mohanlal will be portraying a lawyer in the movie after a gap of 15 years, having last played the role in Janakan alongside Suresh Gopi. The title poster and behind-the-scenes pictures of Neru suggest that it's a courtroom drama. The first glimpse showed the Lady of Justice statue and a Braille book, while the BTS pictures feature Mohanlal in a lawyer's outfit. Additionally, the scriptwriter Santhi is not only an actress but also a lawyer.

The cast and crew of Neru

In the movie Neru, Priyamani takes on the role of the female lead and reunites with Mohanlal after 11 years since their last collaboration in the film Grandmaster, directed by B Unnikrishnan. Other notable actors in the movie include Jagadish, Siddique, Anaswara Rajan, and Ganesh Kumar, who play pivotal roles. The movie is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, known for backing successful films like Jeethu's Drishyam, Drishyam 2, and 12th Man.

Release date of Neru

The makers of Neru have not yet announced its release date. However, it is expected to hit theatres on December 21. This means that Mohanlal's Barroz will not be released on Christmas as originally planned. This is because Barroz is still undergoing post-production work, and Neru will now take its place in the theatres.

Mohanlal's upcoming projects

Mohanlal has kick-started the shoot of Empuraan , the sequel of Lucifer. He has portions to complete in his pan-Indian epic actioner Vrushabha, which also features actors like Roshan Meka and Shanaya Kapoor. The most anticipated Malaikottai Vaaliban , directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and starring Mohanlal, will hit theatres on January 25 2024.
