Netflix has emerged victorious in yet another high profile bidding war. The streaming giant has landed the rights to an upcoming biographical series, based on one of the most popular American singers of all time, Frank Sinatra.
The biographical series is helmed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon and, according to Deadline, a fierce bidding war had been going on for the show since it was announced to be in development over a week ago. One of the many factors which led to such a high demand for the series is the fact that it has access to the full catalogue of the late singer's music as well.
Sinatra had been a prominent figure in the American music industry as well as having a very successful acting career to boot. He had won almost eleven Grammy awards and an Academy Award as well. He died in 1998 at the age of 82.
The yet to be titled series will have Sinatra’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, as one of its executive producers. Other producers involved in the series include Lionsgate Television, Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment and Frank Sinatra Enterprises.
Condon will serve as showrunner on the series and write and direct the pilot episode as well. The filmmaker is popular for his work on films such as Gods and Monsters, Chicago, Kinsey, Dreamgirls and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. He had won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Gods and Monsters.
Details regarding the cast and production date for the series is yet to be announced.
