Netflix released the trailer of their upcoming horror movie titled A Classic Horror Story on Wednesday and going by the trailer, the movie gives the feels of Cabin in the Woods meets Scream meets Midsommar. Coming to Netflix on July 14, the Italian horror film is directed by Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli, with a story penned by De Feo, Strippoli, Lucio Besana, David Bellini and Milo Tissone. A teaser of the film released last month described it as Italian Midsommar meets Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The trailer of the film has proved the description to be on point.
The trailer of the Italian film is filled with references to popular horror movies. The core storyline revolves around a group of people in a camper getting stranded, which is similar to Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Even the shots of a large group of people that resemble a cult gathering are exactly like those in Midsommar. The visuals of torture devices that we see in the trailer are a direct reference to Saw.
The characters of the movie have an uncanny resemblance with those of It with a character in some kind of wooden, Jason Voorhees type mask. The main character of the movie, toting a shotgun, reminds us of The Evil Dead. Everybody eventually ending up in a cabin in the woods is eerily similar to Cabin in the Woods and a dozen other horror films. Even the font seen in the trailer is similar to the one from Halloween.
With details of the movie under the wraps, the official synopsis of the film reveals, "A camper. A car crash. An abandoned house. Children’s music in the background. Think you’ve seen it before? Look again.”
A Classic Horror Story will premiere on Netflix on July 14.
