Netflix just got another interesting addition to its slate of high-budget action films with Kate. The upcoming action thriller is helmed by Oscar-nominee Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who is well-known for The Huntsman: Winter’s War that stars Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth in the lead role. The all-guns-blazing revenge thriller stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the lead role. She is known for her performances in Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Fargo, 10 Cloverfield Land. Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson features in the movie as Varrick, Kate’s handler. He is noted for his roles in True Detective, Three Billboards, The Hunger Games, Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Michiel Huisman is known for Game of Thrones, Tadanobu Asano, noted for Mortal Kombat, Jun Kunimura, known for Kill Bill, Miyavi Lee Ishihara known for Maleficent, and Miku Martineau from the remaining cast.

Umair Aleem, who was on the writing team for Bruce Willis starrer Extraction, has done the screenplay for the film so you can guess the action-oriented touch in the plotline will be bang-on. David Leitch and Kelly McCormick have bankrolled the film. The promising action thriller will premiere on Netflix on September 10, and also in select theatres as is mentioned in the trailer.

Netflix got the project in 2017, but not before a competitive bidding war.

Kate is a badass assassin who gets poisoned while she is on an assignment in Tokyo and now only has 24 hours to live. In these 24 hours, she must race against time to find the one who poisoned her and kill them. While on the nail-biting mission, she comes across a teenage girl Ani, the daughter of one of her past victims played by newcomer Miku Martineau. The two of them develop an unusual bond, so much so that Ani joins her in her mission. What follows is a taut, assassin story with all the thrill, suspense and tensed-up atmosphere particular to the titles of the genre available on Netflix.

The trailer opens with Harrelson as Varrick, Kate’s handler asking her ‘what happened to you’. Kate responds by saying that she missed a hit and thinks she was poisoned. And voila, the scene is set for the high-octane hunt. The actress, who was quite spectacular in the superhero flick, Birds of Prey is in the mode of pure dominance. She nails it as the wronged assassin baying for blood, packing in the punches and the gumption. And one can only hope that the movie keeps the promise of a racy, high-octane actioner this September as it appears in the trailer.
