Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson, who recently featured in the movie Our Friend, has been cast for Netflix's upcoming film Persuasion. The movie is an adaptation of Jane Austen's eponymous novel.
Persuasion will mark the feature film directorial debut of Carrie Cracknell, who had previously directed Jake Gyllenhaal in plays such as Sea Wall and A Life on Broadway.
The upcoming film tells the story of Anne Elliot, who is a 27-year-old living with her family. While at the brink of bankruptcy, she meets a boy who she rejects years ago. Elliot finds a second chance at love after the two reconnect.
The production of the movie is expected to begin in May.
The announcement of the film comes at a time when Succession actress Sarah Snook is also working on a film adaptation of the novel.
Austen's book was adapted numerous times in the past. The most recent one was the 2007 TV movie starring Sally Hawkins in the lead role.
Apart from Persuasion, Johnson is also part of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter and Stephanie Allynne-Tig Notaro’s Am I OK?
The actress was recently in the news for admitting that she would trick restaurants into getting a reservation. On The Drew Barrymore Show, the 31-year-old said that she would indeed book a table with the name of George Clooney just to get a reservation. She also mentioned that Clooney did get to know about her antics. “I had not met him obviously and he was like, ‘I’ve heard about what you’ve done. And I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ But he was cool with it,” she recalled.
