The first season of Space Force premiered on the streaming platform on May 29, 2020. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the show remained popular with viewers with Netflix officially renewing the series in November last year.

Created by Steve Carell and The Office (US) creator Greg Daniels, Space Force is a workplace comedy-drama series that follows the multi-faceted crew of people tasked with establishing the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Space Force. It showcases the efforts of General Mark Naird to get “boots on the moon” by 2024, as per the US President’s orders.

For Season 2, Norm Hiscock who worked with Daniels on shows like Parks and Recreation and King of the Hill has joined the crew as co-showrunner. In addition to Carell and the existing cast, John Malkovich is also expected to return for the show’s second outing.

“Yeah, John Malkovich is very funny. I mean, he’ll just do it,” Daniels commented on Malkovich’s role in an interview. “That’s not the primary thing that he’s known for. But if you look at some of the Coen Brothers stuff like Burn After Reading, he’s quite funny. And he’s very funny in this, I mean, what a treat to get him involved. It’s awesome.”
