Season two of Russian Doll already began production in March 2021, after a delay of one year. The series was renewed by Netflix a few months after its premiere in February 2019.
The narrative of season one is primarily about a game developer called Nadia played by Natasha Lyonne, who is stuck in a time loop. She dies repetitively and survives on the same night in a seemingly never-ending loop. She tries to crack the mystery behind her death and recover. Along the way, she meets Alan, played by Charlie Barnett who has experienced the same time-loop but in a different way. They are in different worlds which seems like an alternate universe as they meet their alternate versions and they try to save each other to break the time loop for good.
The first season concluded on the note of Nadia and Alan finding themselves stuck in two separate times, crashing into alternate, pre-loop versions of themselves. The two are not aware of the future loops and are successful in preventing their first deaths. The final episode ends with the underlying hint that they both go on to become friends in both timelines.
Season two will take off at this juncture, but the plotline has been kept under the wraps. However, as per entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, season two will have a male love interest which is expected to make things more interesting to the audience.
The director Leslye Headland has stated that Nadia, the protagonist will always be there in the show so Natasha Lyonne will reprise her role. And Charlie Barnett as Alan will return too as the two are connected in the plotline.
The number of episodes in Russian Doll Season two hasn’t been disclosed yet too, but as per IMDB, the show will have as many episodes as in the first season.
The official release date for the show is yet to be announced.
