Kannada cinema’s Challenging Star Darshan’s much-awaited next, Kranti, is gearing up for its date with audiences. The team had recently returned from an extensive schedule in Poland, following which they had only a few days’ worth work pending that they were planning to finish by mid-August, so as to allow the actor to start his next, an as-yet-untitled film with Tharun Sudhir.

Kranti, which is directed by V Harikrishna, is about Darshan’s character taking on the academic system. It was earlier reported that the actor would be playing an NRI who returns to India with the intention of saving a government Kannada-medium school. The latest poster, which has Darshan reading a book on the evolution of Indian education is further proof about what the film is about.

However, when the report about the film being steeped in Kannada came out, netizens had questioned how that warranted making the film as a pan-India project, with versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Rachita Ram is paired with Darshan in the film.

Kranti, which is Darshan’s second film with Harikrishna, after their earlier collaboration Yajamana, is rumoured to be a 2022 release. It was, at one point, suggested that the team could be targeting a Dasara release, given that it went on floors on Vijayadashami last year, or a Karnataka Rajyotsava release, but then the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s Gandhada Gudi was announced for that week. The buzz on social media is now that Kranti may be ready in time for Diwali this year. October 21 is being heard as its tentative release date in industry circles. If it does go ahead with this plan, Kranti will be in direct competition with Daali Dhananjaya’s Head Bush, the three-part biopic of former don MP Jayaraj.

Meanwhile, Darshan is all set to start his next with Tharun, in which they are introducing Malashree’s daughter Ananya, who now goes by the name Radhana, as his pair.
