Newtopia K-drama Episode 3 review: Jisoo’s zombie comedy is skippable with weak plot and dull fillers

Prime Video's zombie K-drama Newtopia recently dropped its third episode. Featuring K-pop star Jisoo and Park Jeong-min, episode 3 continues where it left off. It begins with a group of blood-hungry zombies jostling to break the glass to attack Lee Jae-yoon and other survivors. A major portion of the newly released episode is set against the backdrop of the Eden hotel and delves into the absurd encounter between the military personnel and the undead zombies.

Newtopia Episode 3 review

Newtopia Episode 3 falls short of expectations in many aspects. From lackluster romance to the dull humour, the third episode fails to match the intensity of the previous episodes.

The latest episode of Newtopia is quite inconsistent with no new plot development. The story fails miserably to blend humour and horror despite some gory, bloody scenes. Be it the half-baked plot or the rotten humour, Newtopia misses the essence of a good K-drama. Even the background music feels like a missed opportunity. However, since it is just the third episode, fans still expect this zombie drama to pick up some pace in the coming episodes.

The only good thing about this episode is the emotionally-charged messages sent by Jae-yoon's girlfriend Young-joo as it gives hope for the sweet romance between the wacky couple.

Apart from the formidable likes of Jisoo and Park Jeong-min, the ensemble cast also features Hong Seo-hee, Tang Jun-sang, Lee Hak-joo and Kim Jun-han in pivotal roles.

Newtopia Episode 3 verdict

Newtopia's third episode is packed with mundane fillers and unnecessary chaos. Even the leads, Jisoo and Park Jeong-min are unable to save it from its doom. As compared to the initial first two episodes, this one is easily skippable with almost zero plot development.

Newtopia is currently streaming on Prime Video and a new episode drops every Friday.
