Disney+Hotstar has officially confirmed the digital premiere date of its upcoming Malayalam offering Neymar. Starring Mathew Thomas and Naslen in the lead roles, the buddy comedy will become available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar on August 8.
Neymar marks the reunion of Mathew Thomas and Naslen, who gave a memorable performance in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal. In the 2019 high-shool drama, the two young actors played classmates, delivering a strong sense of nostalgia. And judging from the trailer, it seems the duo are likely to give another heartfelt performance leaving a strong mark on our memory.
Going by the trailer, Mathew and Naslen play the best of friends. And as always Naslen helps Mathew in his pursuit to win the affection of his school crush. And given that Mathew's crush is a dog person, Naslen convinces him to adopt a pet dog, which could lead to a perfect opportunity to form a connection. And the duo bring home unruly strange dogs wreaking havoc in the neighbourhood. The turning point in the movie comes when their pet dog gets taken by hardened criminals. Determined to bring back their pet, the two set out to the neighbouring state Tamil Nadu and take on the challenges above their pay grade to bring their canine friend back home.
Neymar is written and directed by Sudhi Maddison. And it also stars Naslen, Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan, Johny Antony, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Yog Japee, Baby Devanandha, Sajin Gopu, Rishikanth, Thushara Pillai and Reshmi Boban in the supporting cast.
"Alby's cinematography and the dog's effort are probably the only positives in Neymar, apart from Vijayaraghavan. Shaan Rahman's loud music also doesn't do the film any favours. If Neymar could have been trimmed down by a good 30 minutes, it would have been easier to sit through but still, the script needed to have more heart in it. While the second half works better than the first, this film doesn't have any new tricks up its sleeve," wrote Sanjith Sidhardhan for OTTplay .
