Young actors Naslen and Mathew Thomas’ adventure entertainer Neymar is all set to release on a leading platform. The movie, which hit theatres on May 12, is currently one of the few Malayalam movies to have continuously had shows for over 40 days this year.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the film’s director Sudhi Maddison tells us, “The feedback for the movie has been good. All of us including the producers are happy with its run.” More than the actors in the movie that also included Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan and Johny Antony, it’s the indigenous dog that plays the titular role in Neymar that has struck a chord with the audience.

While there were several rumours about which OTT platform had bought its streaming rights, Sudhi confirms to us that the producers have struck the deal with Disney+ Hotstar. “The OTT release date of the film is yet to be decided,” he says. The movie is expected to be out on the platform in July, considering that the theatre exhibitors’ body has imposed new restrictions for the window between a Malayalam film’s theatrical and OTT release,

Neymar, which is set in Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu, revolves around two youngsters who decide to track down their dog that goes missing. Their search lands them in a notorious village in Tamil Nadu, where the chief is decided by a dog that wins a popular competition. How the youngsters train Neymar to contest in the competition and also changes the dog brings about in their lives as well as those around it form the plot of the movie, which has Shaan Rahman as its composer and Adarsh Sukumaran and Paul Skariah as its writers.

In an earlier interview with us, Sudhi had said that the film had been conceived as a “complete family entertainer” with songs, fight and ‘mass’ scenes that would appeal to all groups of audience.
