In a recent interview with Yahoo entertainment while promoting his upcoming film Dream Scenario, Nicolas Cage candidly shared his opinion regarding the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the film industry as well as his perspective on his recent Superman cameo.

Earlier, in an interview with the British Film Institute, famed filmmaker Tim Burton expressed his annoyance against the manner of usage of his ill-fated, unreleased 1998 project Superman Lives’ eponymous character as a cameo in The Flash (2023). He said, “I’m in quiet revolt against all this.”

Cage told Yahoo that he agreed with Burton in this case, “But I get where Tim’s coming from. I know what he means. I would be very unhappy if people were taking my art...and appropriating them. I get it. I mean, I’m with him in that regard.”

What did Nicolas Cage actually shoot on set of The Flash?

To clear up the rumors of whether he had actually performed for the character on set or if it had been recreated with the help of old footage or AI, Cage said, “First and foremost, I was on set.” He further described as to what he shot on set that day. “What I was supposed to do was literally just be standing in an alternate dimension, if you will, and witnessing the destruction of the universe.

Kal-El was bearing witness [to] the end of a universe, and you can imagine with that short amount of time that I had, what that would mean in terms of what I can convey. I had no dialogues [so had to] convey with my eyes the emotion. So that’s what I did. I was on set for maybe three hours.”

What was the final result?

However, when it came to seeing the final picture, both Cage and his fans were highly disappointed, as the actor confirmed, “When I went to the picture, it was me fighting a giant spider. I did not do that. That was not what I did. I don’t think it was AI. I know Tim is upset about AI, as I am.” He explained that it was not AI, but must be the CGI used to de-age him that changed things and altered the quality.
