What will you do to get that one thing that alludes you? That’s at the core of debutant director Suraag Sagar’s Nidradevi Next Door, a comedy drama about a young man’s struggle with insomnia. Praveer Shetty is Dhruva, who, try as he might, just cannot get a good night’s sleep. His shrink wonders just what thoughts Dhruva goes to bed with that leave his brain unable to comprehend that it’s time for some rest.

But then, Dhruva meets someone who brings the peace he’s been looking for into his life. Only problem is that whenever Dhruva cares for someone, they end up dead. How Dhruva deals with this conundrum is what Nidradevi Next Door is all about. Praveer is joined by Rishika Nayak of Juni fame, Shine Shetty, Sruthi Hariharan, Srivatsa and Sudha Rani, among others. The film is set for theatrical release on September 12.
Also, in theatres that week are Tejja Sajja’s Mirai, Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha, Pranam Devaraj’s Son of Muthanna, Mokshita Pai’s Middle Class Ramayana, Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas’ Kishkindhapuri, among others. It also comes only a week after Elumale, which has opened to positive reviews, while the Malayalam film Lokah Chapter 1 also continues to draw crowds.
In an earlier conversation with OTTplay, during the release of Just Married, Shine had spoken with great anticipation about Nidradevi Next Door. “This is a film by a young team and has me in a negative role. I took it up because the script excited me; it’s an unusual film for the Kannada industry – the kind you’d usually associate with Hollywood. Within the resources available to them, I think they’ve done their best,” he said.
