Rehashes of old songs have quickly become the new trend, with the latest one being from Abhimanyu Dassani and debutant Shirley Setia's new movie Nikamma

The two bring their best dance club moves to the reprisal of 2002 song 'Nikamma Kiya Is Dil Ne' from Kyaa Dil ne Kahaa. While the original was composed by Himesh Reshammiya with vocals by Shaan and Sanjivani, the new version features a medley of singers including Mohsin, Dev Negi, Payal Dev, and Deane Sequeira.

The new song takes inspiration from the original and brings a more contemprary flair to it, thanks to the lyrics by Danish Sabri and Sanjay Chhel — who also wrote the original — and the musical backing of duo Javed – Mohsin. However, the song also includes a rap sequence which feels a little out of place. The Nikamma title track has garneed over 12 lakh views since it first premiered on YouTube, but whether or not it has fared well with listeners will soon be known.

The video has Abhimanyu flashing his washboard abs while bursting into energetic dance moves on a neon-lit dance floor. Shirley soon joins him and she's as agile and impressive with her dancing.

She shared the song on social media. Watch it here:

The trailer for Nikamma was released on May 17 and showed Abhimanyu as a jobless youth who soon becomes a responsible and caring person when it comes to showing up for his family.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra also plays a pivotal role in the film and will be seen on screen after a gap of 14 years. "It’s the first film I said yes to after my sabbatical, and I was convinced by Sabbir’s grasp on the craft and the unusual and exciting part he had to offer. Avni has been one of my most challenging roles yet, but also a part I enjoyed playing to the hilt. Can’t wait for people to enjoy Nikamma in the theatres," the actress had said in a statement, according to The Indian Express.

Nikamma also marks internet sensation and singer Shirley's Bollywood debut. Sunil Grover, Deepraj Rana and Naren Kumar also star.

Nikamma is directed by Sabbir Khan and produced by Sony Pictures International Productions and Sabbir Khan Films. It will be released in theatres on June 17.
