Swastika Mukherjee is always outspoken and never shies away from expressing her opinions. Now, she became vocal about women becoming victims of cyber-bullying at the bigger stage of the National Commission for Women.
Women – young and old – are often trolled on social media. It is a regular trend to find a woman receiving unwarranted comments. From skin colour to the length of their skirts to their life choices and faith – all these parameters generate lots of obscene and humiliating comments under their photos. Some people protest and some, ignore. But will it solve the issue? Is reporting a profile or blocking it a good solution? Swastika Mukherjee became vocal on those questions.
The National Women’s Commission invited only one person from West Bengal, Swastika. She shared the photo on Instagram and wrote, “It is not every day that you get a call from National Commission for Women @ncwindia to attend a seminar on cyber safety and digital empowerment as a panelist. I was honoured to be the only actor from West Bengal among the eminent speakers. I said what I believe in, trollers hide behind fake names, photos, and profiles and are the REAL COWARDS. It’s time for us to throw our shame away and call them out. Our safety is in our hands! And I was so so excited to meet Kushboo ma’am @khushsundar. A full fan moment within my stomach happened. And got a queen-like swing at the Vigyan Bhavan so posed like one. Thank you @lipstickler for taking care of my nervous anxious panic state.”
Swastika herself has been the victim of trolls on social media, and she duly retaliated. She felt that such bullying will happen again if there is no protest. Recently, the actress took to her social media to post a series of photos flaunting a brave shade of green lip colour. The photos show that the actress is taking a rickshaw ride in Mumbai in a green shirt with green lips with copper danglers. She exuberates happiness and positivity in the photos. She takes no effort to hide the strands of greys. Some trolled her saying, ‘Green chili lips’. Another commented, “It's scary to look at you, even though you are my favorite. Always.” Swastika schooled her trolls and said, “Sometimes, finding fear in between is good.”
