Nimitta Matra’s Poorna Mysore on why commercial success is integral for any actor

Poornachandra Mysore has been in the Kannada film industry for well over a decade, beginning with Lucia. However, despite getting good roles every now and then and being praised for his performances as well, what’s been eluding Poorna is commercial success as far as the theatrical business of his films go. Drawing audiences to theatres and ensuring the financial safety of a producer remains a primary concern for the actor.

Poorna Mysore: Life and career changes once you have commercial success

In a conversation with Kairam Vaashi for the promotions of his upcoming film Nimitta Matra, in which Poorna plays an investigative journalist, whose investigation leads to several mysteries being unfurled, the actor said that he is often haunted by the lack of commercial stability. “As an actor, I can keep doing roles that make me happy, but then, you are answerable to people in your family, among others, about the choices you make in being in this profession. You will be able to answer their queries only when you have that success,” says Poorna, adding that once an actor attains commercial success, his career and life trajectory changes drastically.

The actor reckons that until he finds the formula that will get him to that big break, he will continue to do work that truly gives him joy. Like, for instance, the gangster role he did in the comedy, Family Drama. “Just because the film didn’t reach the masses, I cannot reject it. Family Drama is a film that I absolutely enjoyed making; it was an honest effort. Reaching larger audiences, growing as an actor in terms of better remuneration, etc., are all the next step of this journey and that day is yet to come. It would be great if it does come,” he says.

Poorna adds, though, that he does not let his current career trajectory affect him, because it will have a ripple-effect on his work. His funda in life is not to set a goal and plan moves accordingly, but to go with the flow and leave the rest to destiny.
