Mrs. actor Nishant Dahiya's first instinct was to reject Sanya Malhotra-starrer | Here's why

Actor Nishant Dahiya has been appreciated for his performance in Arati Kadav's Mrs. The film, starring Sanya Malhotra in the lead role, was recently released on ZEE5. In this movie, Nishant plays the character of a patriarchal and emotionally abusive husband to Sanya's character. Before he was offered Mrs., Nishant watched The Great Indian Kitchen (Malayalam version) and hated the husband's character. And later, when he was offered the same role in Mrs., his first instinct was to reject it.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Nishant Dahiya revealed his first reaction when he was offered Mrs. The actor said, "My first reaction was, ‘I don’t want to be this person.’ I didn’t want people hating me'." Nishant's hesitation stemmed from his experience when he was abused on social media. Dahiya recalled he got hate on social media after Kedarnath was released in 2018.

And while even he gets affected by a single negative comment, the actor revealed he is trying to work on it. He further opened up about his meeting with Arati Kadav for Mrs. where he intended to reject the film.

"Arati was lovely. She came across as a warm person, and I wanted to work with her. She was keen on making this film and [hiring] me. I did say no, but after coming home, I felt I should revisit the offer," shared Nishant.

In the same conversation, the actor added that the story of Mrs. needed to reach a wider audience It's because he feels most of us are conditioned in a way that we don't realize when we are wrong.

Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs. is a story of a trained female dancer whose life is restricted to the kitchen after her marriage. Sanya plays the role of Richa Sharma in the movie, which premiered on February 7, 2025. It is also available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
