Vivek Agnihotri has often said that he does not consider himself to be a part of the practices followed in the Hindi film industry aka Bollywood. The filmmaker, who is about to release his upcoming series, The Kashmir Files: Unreported, spoke about the industry in a recent interview. He clarified that he does not hold any grudge but would love to see Bollywood improve.
“I have no grudge. Absolutely no grudge. I want Bollywood to become better,” Vivek said in an interview to Republic TV.
He then compared Bollywood to the government. The filmmaker said that much like people criticizing the government, they are allowed to criticize Bollywood too, especially since he believes that the industry promotes negative nepotism rather than positive nepotism.
Since criticizing the government does not mean that the people hold a grudge against the country, similar is the case with those who speak wrong about Bollywood. They both want to experience better out of them.
In the same interview, the filmmaker said, “Bollywood is exploitative. It's a corrupt system which promotes mediocrity.”
Vivek shared that his position in the industry has become tougher since The Kashmir Files release. He, however, sees it as a rock and compares himself to a wave that keeps hitting at the rock.
The Kashmir Files Unreported is a seven-episode docu-series taken from the Kashmiri Pandit survivors. It will be available for streaming on Zee5 from August 11.
