As Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect gears up to hit screens on July 1, the actor has been aggressively promoting the film. The actor, who was in Chennai today, for the promotions, said that the film was no less than a James Bond story. The film is a biopic on the former aerospace scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of espionage. Madhavan, who has also helmed and produced the film, plays the scientist.

The actor stated it was always his dream to do a project where he could age on screen (playing a young character who goes on to become an old man in the film), something on the likes of what his mentor Kamal Haasan did in Nayagan. He added that he did not use any no prosthetics for the character, and that he put on weight and lost the kilos naturally. The actor went on to show pictures of the journey during the meet.

Madhavan added that he worked on the script for seven months and since he was an engineer himself, it was a tad easier to grasp things. In a video released earlier on social media on how the film was conceptualised, Madhavan had said that it was a chance encounter of Nambi Narayanan's interview on YouTube that made him take the decision to make a film on him. He says in the video," I could see that deep inside was a man who was hurt and devastated by accusation that impacted him and his family. There was embarrassment and tears in his eyes, but deep inside was the expression of the core of absolute truth."

He had added that after seven months of rigorous writing and research, it took him another one-and-a-half year to put the whole script together. The film has been shot in Tamil, Hindi and English simultaneously using live sync sound. Talking about the much-hyped cameos by Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya at the press meet, Madhavan said that both of them did not charge a penny for their roles and that he was yet to get them gifts.
