Anurag Basu surprised everyone on September 5 by announcing Aashiqui 3. Bollywood's heartthrob Kartik Aaryan will play the lead in the third instalment of the acclaimed musical romance, and Anurag Basu will bring fresh life into the franchise with his brilliant storytelling. The much awaited movie won't begin production anytime soon, though, as it's still in the writing phase.

Whereas, Life in a Metro 2 rumours have been circulating for years now. There was talk of a follow-up to this love and relationship drama when the director was working on the multi-story Ludo. The movie, nevertheless, belonged to a different genre, and the director had refuted rumours. However, it's now being reported that Basu is prepared to resurrect Life in a Metro, one of his most well-known projects. Although the details of the sequel are still being kept under wraps, rumours indicate that Ali Fazal has been cast in the film.

According to Peeping Moon sources Anurag Basu has begun production on Life in a Metro 2 and has cast Ali Fazal in a lead role. A source was quoted in their reports as saying, “Anurag Basu has been planning to make LIAM2 for a long time, but it was only during the first COVID-19 lockdown that he cracked the storyline.” This movie will be produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and will feature several interconnected stories.

Meanwhile, Aashiqui 3 won't begin production until close to the end of 2023. Kartik Aaryan has a number of projects in the works, and he won't start shooting this Pritam musical till all of them are finished. Currently the actor is all over the news for his upcoming film Freddy. He will start Kabir Khan's action comedy after finishing the filming for Sajid Nadiadwala's Satya Prem Ki Katha. Before adopting the lover boy persona for the third instalment of Aashiqui, he is anticipated to finish Hansal Mehta's Captain India.

Anurag Basu, on the other hand, is also rumoured to be in talks for a spy drama.
