Ntikkakkokkoru Premondarnn will see Bhavana return to Malayalam cinema after almost 5 years. The actress, who made her film debut in 2002’s Nammal, recently reflected on her journey in the industry.
In conversation with Film Companion, Bhavana spoke of how her mindset had changed since she made her debut in Nammal as a teenager. She recalled how she was not serious about acting at the time, and what excited her most about it was that it gave her a chance to skip school.
The actress reminisced about how she used to spend her time playing antakshari and dumb charades with the film crew. “At 15, I was clueless about how huge the film industry is”, she said.
Now, almost two decades later, the actress reflected how her expectations in life and her profession changed, and how she had met a number of people along the way who changed her life. She also spoke about the change the industry was witnessing, especially in terms of gender equality.
She spoke of how Shah Rukh Khan had made it a priority to ensure that the actress’ name came before his in his film. Although it did not seem like a big thing, it marked a sign of respect that the actor gave his co-stars, and the practice was followed in the case of every film produced by SRK’s banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.
Bhavana talked about how she noticed something similar happening in the Malayalam film industry as well, giving the example of ehr upcoming film, Ntikkakkokkoru Premondarnn. Both she and her co-star Sharafudheen were given equal importance, with the film’s posters carrying both their names.
Ntikkakkokkoru Premondarnn was written and directed by Adhil Maimoonath Asharaf. In addition to Sharafudheen and Bhavana, the film also features Anu Mohan, Rahul Madhav, G Chandunath, Ajmal Ameer, Renji Panicker, Aditi Ravi and Nandu.
