Janhit Mein Jaari, starring Nushrat Bharucha, has created an apparent cultural impact. Despite the modest commercial returns during its theatrical run, the film has now warranted a sequel and a whole new slew of remakes, according to the latest reports. The film is centered on Bharucha's young and vibrant crusader whose pursuits to sell condoms and indirectly educate the masses about sex education has resonated strongly with the audience.
The film is said to have been made at a budget of Rs. 20 crores which includes advertising and the cost for print, has managed to collect close Rs. 23 crores through its satellite, digital, and music rights. Additionally, owing to its social relevance, the Madhya Pradesh government offered the film a subsidy worth Rs. 2 crores and the film’s box office run is said to have fetched Rs. 4 crores (approx.).
And now, following this credible performance, the makers of Janhit Mein Jaari are planning a sequel which too shall be headlined by a female actor. Nushrat Bharucha's status as an A-list star carried the film’s inherent message about safe sex to a wider audience and the team now hopes on recreating this impact with a new subject and another exciting cast in place for the sequel.
Janhit Mein Jaari is a Bhanushali Studios Limited production with popular Hindi TV director Jai Basantu Singh making his film debut. The cast also includes Vijay Raaz, Anud Singh Dhaka, Sukriti Gupta, and others.
In other developments, Bhanushali Studios Limited has been reportedly approached by a south India-based production house for the film’s remake rights. Should things materialize, Janhit Mein Jaari will be remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Punjabi with A-list female stars from each language playing the protagonist. It would be interesting to how the remakes eventually pan out – very recently, the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Badhaai Ho was remade in Tamil as Veetla Vishesham with RJ Balaji, Sathyaraj, and Urvashi forming the central cast. Veetla Vishesham garnered critical acclaim and was also a commercial success.
