LucasFilm and Disney have a long list of Star Wars spin-offs in the pipeline. The makers of Obi-Wan Kenobi have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming show.

Ewan McGregor returns as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the show, a role he played in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The story is set ten years after the disastrous events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when Kenobi’s apprentice Anakin Skywalker turns to the dark side.

The teaser trailer shows Kenobi in exile, keeping a watchful eye over a young Luke Skywalker who lives with his uncle and aunt. The teaser also gives a glimpse at the Grand Inquisitor, who is on the hunt for Kenobi and the rest of the Jedi.

Young Luke is seen sitting on top of the entryway of the house, wearing flight goggles, playing make-believe as a pilot. Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope has said his dreams to leave Tatooine to be a pilot.

One of the highlights of the trailer is John Willaims’ music. The background score fills the teaser and is able to engross the viewer.

Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse who played Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in the end of the prequel trilogy also reprise their roles in Obi-Wan Kenobi. The show also features Hayden Christensen as Anakin, Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

40 years after Alec Guinness’ first portrayal of the Jedi master in exile in Star Wars: A New Hope, the show with Ewan McGregor in the lead will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on May 25, 2022.
