Officer On Duty Day 12 box office collection: Kunchacko Boban’s cop thriller edges closer to Rekhachithram worldwide gross

Malayalam star Kunchacko Boban’s latest release Officer On Duty is well on track to become the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of 2025. The movie, which has so far grossed Rs 42 Cr, will get a huge boost after its Tamil and Telugu versions hit theatres in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on March 7.

The film, helmed by Jithu Ashraf, will also aim to take down Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan’s superhit Rekhachithram, which had grossed close to Rs 60 Cr worldwide. The latter will drop on Sony LIV on March 7 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, and could be one of the most-watched Malayalam movies on the streaming platform, which also has Unni Mukundan’s Marco.

Officer On Duty Day 12 box office update

According to industry tracking site Sacnilk, the Kunchacko-starrer has so far grossed Rs 21 Cr in its first 12 days from the domestic market, taking its worldwide tally to Rs 42 Cr. While movies see a fall in its second weekend, Officer On Duty was able to sustain its steady progress – thanks to fewer Malayalam releases. This is also expected to continue this week, with only three small films hitting theatres.

In a recent interview with OTTplay, Kunchacko, who played CI Harishanker in the Shahi Kabir-scripted movie, said that he was buoyed by the audience feedback of the film and compared it to his debut film Aniyathipraavu. “Just like my first film, this movie has reached heights that none of us had ever imagined. In that context, it’s definitely a landmark movie in my career so far,” he said, crediting the entire team for its success.

Officer On Duty set for its OTT release

Despite its houseful run in theatre, the movie is expected to drop on OTT in March 2025. Its OTT rights were snapped up by Netflix before its theatrical release and the movie, which also has Priya Mani and Jagadeesh, could begin streaming by March 20 in various Indian languages.
